Under the instruction of the Superintendent of Mahara Prison, Mr. Jagath Chandana Weerasinghe, Mahara Prison donated protective suits made by prison inmates to be used by the health staff caring for infected patients in Chillaw, Marawila and Puttlam Hospitals despite the risk of Corona Pandemic.
On a request made online https://slsecure.online started by Engineer, Amila Silva from Singapore, Nipuna Perera from Ireland, Hemaka Ravin from the Faculty of Engineering- Moratuwa together with some friends, long term sentenced prisoners under vocational training at the Mahara Prison have contributed their labour in producing these clothes under the guidance of the Superintendent of Mahara Prison. Ms. Ranga Thabru Mendis from Spruce Clothing- Borella gives necessary advice to inmates trained in sawing.
A circle of friends from Singapore, England, America, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Sri Lanka gave financial assistant in this donation. Assistant Superintendent of Mahara Prison, Mr. H.M.P. Hennayaka representing the Superintendent of Mahara Prison, handed over 1500 protective cloths to the Director General of the Chilaw Hospital, Dr. Kapila Priyantha.
